Welding can be an extremely dangerous pastime, whether you are a professional welder or you love to weld and create art in your spare time, the dangers are the same. Purchasing a very good quality pair of welding boots to keep your feet protected is absolutely vital. If you don’t buy welding boots or shoes there are a number of things that can happen. Firstly, if you wear standard shoes or boots without any special protection the heat, spatter and sparks from your welds can actually physically melt your footwear. Secondly, these same results can actually burn or seriously harm your feet through your shoes. Lastly, as you work with heavy items and tools when welding there is always the danger that something could fall on your feet and break a bone or damage your foot. For this reason the large majority of safety footwear for welding has steel toecaps or at the very least some kind of re-enforcement around the top of the foot to protect against this. Please study out welding boot reviews to help you with your comparisons and buying decision.
Luckily, there is a huge variety of different brands, styles and types of welding boot for sale and you can pretty much attain them for any budget you like. We would, however, recommend that you spend as much as you can afford on your safety boots for welding. After all, your personal safety is extremely important and is certainly not something that you should be looking to cut costs on. We would also recommend that you opt for one of the more well-known brands such as Timberland, Rocky, Caterpillar or Dr.Marten. By investing in these household names you can get the peace of mind that you are getting a product that is reliable and will last for a decent amount of time before you have to buy again.
Caterpillar Men’s Assault Work Boot
The Caterpillar Men’s Assault Work Boot is a really comfortable and good looking welding boot. As with all the Caterpillar boots they have given a great deal of attention to support and comfort, you will notice this as soon as you put your foot inside. Every part of the welding boot from the metatarsal protector to the metal crafted eyelets for the laces have been built well and always with welding in mind, meaning they are strong and durable. If you are looking to buy a set of welding boots that look the part, then you cannot go wrong with the Caterpillar Men’s Assault Work Boot.
Excellent foot and ankle support throughout the welding boot.
There is a great padded collar around the top of the boot, this helps to stop the boot from rubbing against your leg/ankle, especially when the welding boots are new.
Metal lace up the front of the boots means you can secure them safely
Non-slip rubber sole mean the boots are great for wet or oily surfaces, they should help to prevent you from slipping and hurting yourself
Crafted from strong leather to provide durability and water resistance
Excellent breathable material used for the lining to prevent your feet from getting hot and sweaty, even during long days of welding
The Caterpillar Men’s Assault Work Boot is a little heavier than some models, so can feel a little tiring when wearing for long periods of time.
The metatarsal protector can dig into your feel a little when bending your feet or crouching. It will soften over time, but it’s not as flexible as the Timberland option.
Dr. Martens Men’s Ironbridge MG ST Steel-Toe Met Guard Boot
The Dr. Martens Men’s Ironbridge MG ST Steel-Toe Met Guard Boot is a cracking option if you are looking for a solid and durable welding boot to protect your feet while welding, especially if you are going to be doing overhead welding with the added danger of falling debris. The Dr. Martens welding boot is a good all round protector, they are not only waterproof but have added protection around the key areas such as the sole, the eyelets for the laces and of course the metatarsal area, which is commonly injured by welders if the incorrect footwear is worn.
Tough, non-slip sole gives you good longevity and helps to prevent injury from slipping on wet or slippery surfaces.
Double stitched throughout to make the Dr. Martens Men’s Ironbridge MG ST Steel-Toe Met Guard Boot as strong as possible and prevent any fraying.
Extra strong eyelets for the laces and the laces themselves are also re-enforced for extra strength

The soft and flexible soles can be a little prone to melting when exposed to extreme heat. If you step on or walk on very hot items or surfaces this can damage the sole a little. You need to tread carefully!
Rocky Duty Men’s Modern Paraboot
As you can probably tell the Rocky Duty Men’s Modern Paraboot is much larger/taller than most of the other welding boots available to buy today. The “Paraboot” style is quite popoular with some welders as it gives some extra protection to the lower part of the leg and can look quite cool too, especially if you are into army fashion. Unlike some other paraboots available today the Rocky Duty Men’s Modern Paraboot is fitted with a useful zip down the side of the boot to make it really easy to remove or put on the welding boots. This is a great help.
Extra length/height of these welding boots provides you with a level of protection up the leg that most other welding boots available today do not give.
Side zip feature means the Rocky Duty Men’s Modern Paraboot is really easy to take off and put on, something that is a great plus to any worker
The welding boots are crafted from a fully water resistant leather that can be polished up to look really smart and impressive
Excellent contoured sole and a really comfortable cushioned area for your feet. These two features combined mean you should be really comfy, even if you wear these boots all day every day.
Unlike our previous two reviews the Rocky Duty Men’s Modern Paraboot does not have any protection at all for the metatarsal area of the foot. This is a big drawback for us.
There is also a lack of lining with this model, meaning the welding boot can become a little hot and sweaty, especially if you are welding in hot/warm conditions. This is a shame.
Timberland PRO Men’s 53580 8” Metguard Steel- Toe Boot
The Timberland PRO Men’s 53580 8” Metguard Steel- Toe Boot is a solid all round welding boot. Timberland are better known for their walking boots and fortunately the comfort they have mastered with their walking models has transferred nicely over into the welding versions. The best part about this welding boot is the metatarsal guard design, this is a critical part of any welding boot and one that Timberland have done perfectly. As with nearly all boots coming from the Timberland brand the Timberland PRO Men’s 53580 8” Metguard Steel- Toe Boot is crafted from Ever Guard leather that is not only waterproof but also extremely comfortable, especially after a few months of wear.
Excellent metatarsal protection, the hinging feature on this part of the welding boot is a great addition. It means that while you are crouching or moving in the boots the metatarsal protection adjusts with your foot movement meaning the top of your foot is always well protected. It also means the protector doesn’t dig into your foot, making the boot very comfortable.
Ever Guard leather and double stitching with Kevlar thread make these welding boots extremely durable and safe. You should be able to get a good few years of use from them before they start to deteriorate
Steel toecap protection, with roomy toe space making the boots extra comfortable. This is a critical part of the boot and one you definitely need.
Strong, non-slip rubber sole which ensures that you don’t slip and injure yourself on wet or oily surfaces.
All the added protection these boots have makes them a little heavier than other models. This can mean they’re a little tiring to wear, especially if you are walking a lot during your working day.
